dejame piedra
lyrical translations
So I was talking to one of my good friends and we started talking about songs that we would sing to our children. He said he’d sing Eyes Of Mercy
which are the loveliest lyrics I’ve ever read by a group called October Project
. When I read the lyrics I almost cried! He also sent me these lyrics Bowl Of Oranges
by the group Bright Eyes
(for which I thank him profusely to no end).
So, what song would I sing to my child(ren)? Well, I’m sure I’d sing them a bunch of songs that I like. A lot of Soda Stereo, Zoé, Cafe Tacuba, Caifanes/Jaguares, Lucybell. But one song in particular I would proudly sing because I think it has a great message: Piedra by the Caifanes. So here are the lyrics for Piedra along with the translation.

I think the lyrics pretty much speak for themselves. The singer is expressing that feeling we sometimes get when we are smothered by somone else. But smothered so much that we feel that we are being changed, affected, twisted into something else. I firmly believe that no one should change who you are. No one should define you, only you can define yourself. Sure others can give you some great insights because they have a different view point than you do. But that person can not be your final answer to who you are or who you should be.
Two other songs I would sing to my future child(ren) are Zoé’s Electricidad and Love, but I’ll save those lyrics for another day. Those songs, and Piedra make my cry. ![]()
