dejame piedra

lyrical translations

So I was talking to one of my good friends and we started talking about songs that we would sing to our children. He said he’d sing Eyes Of Mercy open link in new window which are the loveliest lyrics I’ve ever read by a group called October Project open link in new window. When I read the lyrics I almost cried! He also sent me these lyrics Bowl Of Oranges open link in new window by the group Bright Eyes open link in new window (for which I thank him profusely to no end).

So, what song would I sing to my child(ren)? Well, I’m sure I’d sing them a bunch of songs that I like. A lot of Soda Stereo, Zoé, Cafe Tacuba, Caifanes/Jaguares, Lucybell. But one song in particular I would proudly sing because I think it has a great message: Piedra by the Caifanes. So here are the lyrics for Piedra along with the translation.

Caifanes – Piedra
(Rock)

piedra dejame piedra
no me deformes mas
dejame como soy

mira como sangro
que no sientes como tiemblo
no te importa verme sufrir
nunca me haz hablado
como se seca el alma
mis dientes piden perdon

si te grito que me ayudes
es porque quiero que te alejes
ya no quiero olerte mas
no quiero irme contigo
llorando al cielo
quiero aprender
aprender a amar

piedra dejame piedra
no me deformes mas
dejame como soy
que asi estoy bien
solo estoy muy bien

separame los huesos
destrozame y entierrame
olvidame por favor
dejame ser la noche
y bailar hasta sangrar
la danza del mas alla

dejame aunque sea
irme volando hasta perderme
y nunca volverte a ver

soy un mundo
no me destruyas
que quiero conocer
la paz interior

piedra dejame piedra
no me deformes mas
dejame como soy
que asi estoy bien
solo estoy muy bien

rock, leave me alone rock
don’t deform me anymore
leave me as a I am

look at how I bleed
don’t you feel how I tremble
don’t you care to see me suffer
you’ve never told me
how the soul is dried
my teeth ask for forgiveness

if I scream for your help
it’s because I want to you go away
I don’t want to smell you anymore
I don’t want to go with you
crying at the sky
I want to learn
learn how to love

rock, leave me alone rock
don’t deform me anymore
leave me how I am
in this way I’m fine
alone I’m fine

separate my bones
destroy me and bury me
please forget me
let me be the night
and dance until I bleed
the dance of far away

leave me although I am
I will go flying until I lose myself
and never see you again

I am a world
don’t destroy me
because I want to know
the peace inside

rock, leave me alone rock
don’t deform me anymore
leave me how I am
in this way I’m fine
alone I’m fine

I think the lyrics pretty much speak for themselves. The singer is expressing that feeling we sometimes get when we are smothered by somone else. But smothered so much that we feel that we are being changed, affected, twisted into something else. I firmly believe that no one should change who you are. No one should define you, only you can define yourself. Sure others can give you some great insights because they have a different view point than you do. But that person can not be your final answer to who you are or who you should be.

Two other songs I would sing to my future child(ren) are Zoé’s Electricidad and Love, but I’ll save those lyrics for another day. Those songs, and Piedra make my cry.
