water dream
A dream I had after watching a bit of the “Open Water” movie
After watching a bit of the movie Open Water I had a related dream: my sister and I are driving down a long bridge (like the Golden Gate bridge) on a bright, warm day. A car suddenly runs us off the bridge and we’re falling towards the water in a kind of slow-motion. I remember turning to look at my sister and she’s just solid shocked. Next thing I know we’re in the water but it’s not cold and the car is sinking.
My sister gets the crazy idea to go after her purse so she dives down swimming after the sinking car. I quickly fetch up her two long-haired chihuahuas—Chico and Maddox—and put them in a large bucket conveniently floating nearby. Diving down, I start swimming after my sister in the murky water and can see her kicking legs in front of me as I follow her. When we start getting close to the bottom a huge fish swims up to her and bites her. The fish has his mouth over my sister’s rib cage so I kick the fish somehow and grab my sister. Pushing off the bottom of the river I start swimming up dragging my sister with me.
So now I’m back at the surface of the water and I realize I have to swim to the edge because there’s no way anyone can see us from the bridge—it looks about as far away as the clouds! Well, I have to just swim it with my sister in tow and the bucket with the dogs in it tied to my arm. I can see the edge of the river with the city’s skyline. It’s still daytime. Eventually I swim by a sort of metal fence or divider that cops use to hold people back from certain areas. I think, ‘Finally, I can take a rest here.’ But there was a dead body tied to it so I ended up crying and screaming at the uselessness of it all and at how we were going to die here in the middle of this body of water.
Well, I didn’t stop swimming and made it to the edge of the river and there were concrete blocks there. I pushed my sister out of the water and raised the bucket with the dogs in it too. There were people praying near the edge and they called an ambulence. I took a few breaths and started trying to wake my sister up; she had these teeth marks on her ribs. This is when I woke up.
