searchable tv shows
The all-in-one deal from Google.
So now it turns out that Google is going to start indexing TV shows.
Google will start indexing previously aired content from ABC, PBS, Fox News and C-SPAN and offer it as part of its Web search. No fancy speech-to-text recognition, just the closed captioning provided by the television networks, and no direct links to videocontent either.
The TV show themselves won’t be viewable, but the closed captioning will be searchable (the beta search engine is up at Google Video). The article also talks about how Yahoo is getting into the game via a product in development that searches for Webcast videos. Read a related article on Yahoo’s video search.
This reminds me of the convergence thing that’s been going on. Your PDA is also your digital camera is also your cellphone is also your computer. Your personal computer is also your TV is also your DVD player is also your video game unit is also your webcam for video e-mail. This article states it nicely, True Convergence Is on the Horizon.
