so happeeeee!!!

So my personal crisis is…

So my personal crisis is over. My iPod was suffering from hard drive clicks-of-death. And I was about to cry!! I thought I had demagnetized it somehow by carrying it in my purse which uses magnets to keep it closed (yes, it’s clasp-free!). So I took it to the Apple Store downtown cuz I still had a one-year warranty and guess what? Guess what?! They replaced it with a brand-spanking new one!!

    Ah.

“click-of-death” is a term in for Zip and Jaz drives, not hard drives.

It is being thrown around now by people heard it refered to, but never knew what it ment.

Click of Death of COD is when the read/write heads of the drive retract & reinsert into the cartridge to clean themselves, this is not the cause, but the effect. THe cause being a error in writing to the master sections of this disk, and making all data unlocatable, since the disk cant be read, the drive thinks something is wrong w/ itself, and tires to clean / realign, which is that clicking sound.

In contrast, that click form the HD is the actual cause, not the effect. In a HD that click, the arm is misaligned, usually due to being shocked (drop). Trying to get into the ‘rest’ position, it will go too far, and tap on something, usually the outer casing.

Sorry to be a def nazi, but I keep hearing people using terms that are just wrong, and they do so repeatidly.

If i hear one more person talk about PPC and SERPs being even being remotly related…. :S
